Hildenbrand Estate Chenin Blanc 2007

1 Aug

So I am sitting here thinking.

Thinking of what to write as an intro to this post but screw it. I’ll just jump straight to the wine haha!

I had this white wine the other day and its from the same winery as my previous post.

This was simply bursting with ripe tropical fruits. Hints of pineapple, peach, melon all combined for a fresh and tangy bite. It had a delightful walnut finish which added to its depth and complexity.

Hildenbrand Estate, Malbec 2007

Time for another wine review!

Here we have a wine from South Africa. Speaking of which, it’s unfortunate that the Bafana Bafana did not make it through to the next round of the World Cup. I mean they had every chance to do so. The French, unlike their wines were absolutely poor from the start.

Anyway, moving on to the wine.

Hildenbran Estate, Landgoedwyn, Malbec 2007

Hildenbrand Estate, Landgoedwyn, Malbec 2007, South Africa.

Hildenbrand Estate is a boutique vineyard in the Landgoedwyn region of South Africa. It’s owner and its cheif creator of the wines there, Reni Hildenbrand has much to be happy proud about as here wines are now shipped internationally as it came from a small and humbling beginning.

On the nose the wine has hints of leather. Someone else said that he smelt hints of matches and I was like what??

I have no idea what matches smelt like. But I was told that there was hints of the smell matches would give when it lights up. I spent the next 5-10mins trying to locate that aroma but nope. Maybe the next time someone lights up a match I’ll take a nice long whiff. Lol

The wine was full bodied, mid tannic with gracious amounts of acidity.

It was pretty oakey and plenty of berry sensations. I still can’t differentiate the berries but the label read Raspberries and Blueberries.

As a whole the wine had a very strong nose (lol matches) but a lighter comparison on the palate. I think that the body structure was just not as complex as the initial impressions from the nose.

If you like a real strong, full bodied wine to go with your steak this is a wise choice.

Abit too pricey though as it retails for RM169

Virgin

16 Jun

I really hate posting the first post.

It feels so bare and irrelevant. But I guess for anything in life there must be a start point.

Recently I heard that people don’t post “First!” anymore on a new thread or topic for forums. The new term is “Virgin” (hence my blog title lol)

Ok whatever. Lets get down to business!

A friend of mine opened this bottle recently and I had the chance to taste it.

Jeanneret 2002 Shiraz

Clare Valley, Jeanneret Wines 2002 Shiraz, South Australia

According their homepage,

Jeanneret Wines began under fairly unusual circumstances when Denis, a Swiss chemist and his wife Patricia moved to Sevenhill in the Clare Valley, South Australia. Denis decided he’d have a go at self sufficiency and, as it turned out, he was very good at making his own wine and Jeanneret Wines was created in 1992. In 1994 Denis and Pat’s son, Ben, joined the business and built a winery and planted some vines on what is now the Stumbling Block Vineyard, on the hill behind the family home.

The nose was quite strong and vibrant. I couldn’t pint point the exact berries but it definitely showing those characteristics. For a Shiraz, its quite a medium bodied wine.

However I really liked how it tasted. Soft and elegant.

It tasted like sweet plums but all I could think about was those Sara Lee strawberry flavored ice cream!

Loved that after taste! Only had 1 glass but I think I could have drank the whole thing myself.

It would have probably gone well with some nice German Sausages. Yum.
